Students who participate in honor bands are exposed to challenging music, incredible experiences, and they can help pave the way for success when preparing for college scholarship auditions. Honor bands are also great places to make new friends with students from all across the Southeast. University honor bands also provide opportunities to build rapport with college band directors PRIOR to your scholarship audition!
Below is a list of honor bands that SOTV members have attended in the past. Most major universities offer honor band opportunities, so feel free to explore additional opportunities.
Most honor bands take place Thursday – Saturday, which require you to miss one (1) or two (2) days of school. If Mr. Melton is attending the honor band with you, it’s considered a field trip, and you will not be marked absent.
If Mr. Melton is unable to attend and honor band you’d like to participate in, you can receive an excused absence from school. Students are expected to inform their teachers BEFORE their absence to discuss make-up work.
